The Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to former lieutenant governor, Brad Dye.

To recognize an individual of notable accomplishment whose life and work have reflected distinction upon the University by exemplifying the best of those ideas we pursue in the study of political science.

The Department of Political Science will hold a Department Awards Reception next Friday, April 24th, 3:30 pm, in Trent Lott (2nd floor landing)

Political Science Pre-Debate Reception

We invite our Alumni and friends to a Pre-Debate Reception on Tuesday, September 23, 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the University Club, Oxford.   The Reception follows a roundtable discussion entitled “Debating the Stakes for Mississippi.”  The roundtable will focus on alternative plans for promoting educational opportunity in the south. The Political Science Department invites you to our Pre-Debate Reception on September 23, 2008, 5-6:30 pm, at the University Club in Oxford.   Please contact the Department at 662-915-7401 if you can come or would like more information.  The Reception will follow an event entitled “Debating the Stakes for Mississippi” in the Overby Center Auditorium at 4 pm.   Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant, Governor Ray Mabus, and State School Superintendent Hank Bounds will be responding to a policy report written by UM Honors entitled “Closing the Gaps:  Promoting Educational Opportunity in the South.”  I hope you can attend both events!

The University of Mississippi's Political Science Alumni Advisory Board will meet on Wednesday, October 17, 2007.

Class of 1971

Thanks for the “heads up” notice re; Dr. Bhagat.  I don’t have any recollections of having taken any of his classes during my time at Ole Miss but would take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Bhagat upon his retirement and thank him for his service.

 

I’m now retired, having begun government service as a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms upon graduation in 1971.  I was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to complete my ATF career at Oxford, where I served as Resident Agent in Charge of that field office from 1987 to 1998.

 

Thanks again for making me aware of Dr. Bhagat’s retirement.
