Mr. Steven Guyton
To recognize an individual of notable accomplishment whose life and work have reflected distinction upon the University by exemplifying the best of those ideas we pursue in the study of political science.
Dear alumni:
This fall, the University of Mississippi Political Science Department will be recognizing Mr. Steve Guyton with our 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award. The preface to the Distinguished Alumni Award is:
"To recognize an individual of notable accomplishment whose life and work have reflected distinction upon the university by exemplifying the best of those ideas we pursue in the study of political science."
Steve is richly deserving of this recognition. He has touched hundreds of young men and women’s lives through his long-time association with Boys State and Girls State, as well as service to our Senators and other elected officials. Steve’s vocation has been to guide young people toward life-changing opportunities in higher education, military service, and politics. He does this with great enthusiasm and zest for life. No one shakes hands with greater eagerness and passion than Steve Guyton! It is with great pleasure that we will celebrate Steve Guyton’s public service this fall, and I ask for your help in two ways.
First, would you consider a financial gift to support a Steve Guyton Endowment for Student and Faculty Development? This Endowment Fund will support faculty mentorship of undergraduate research projects. These research projects can be the most memorable and important learning opportunities in an undergraduate’s time at the University. It will be a fitting tribute to Steve Guyton’s work and a lasting benefit to students. Our goal for the Endowment Fund is to raise $25,000. To that end, I ask that you consider contributing toward a “100 from 100” plan. Would you be 1 of 100 friends of Steve Guyton to contribute $100 toward the Guyton Fund? It would be a terrific tribute if we were to achieve 100 pledges!

You can mail the pledge form and your check to the University of Mississippi Political Science Department. The address is below. Thanks for the “heads up” notice re; Dr. Bhagat. I don’t have any recollections of having taken any of his classes during my time at Ole Miss but would take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. Bhagat upon his retirement and thank him for his service.
I’m now retired, having begun government service as a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms upon graduation in 1971. I was extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to complete my ATF career at Oxford, where I served as Resident Agent in Charge of that field office from 1987 to 1998.
Thanks again for making me aware of Dr. Bhagat’s retirement.
